Johnny Fryer was crowned the 2010 Quiksilver British National Surfing Champion on August Bank Holiday weekend. The 2010 Quiksilver British National Surfing Championships in Association with with Roxy, Tiger 24, Gibson Guitar, DC, Monster Energy & Fistral Blue saw Twenty-five year old goofy-footer Johnny Fryer originally from the Isle of Wight surfing at his best at Fistral Beach, Newquay to claim the British title.

New young surfers like Luke Dillon and Toby Donachie made the competition very tough, and with over one hundred competitors taking part and six British Champion titles up for grabs in the open, seniors, women’s, masters, veterans and stand-up paddle boarding divisions the weather could not have been better.

The mens final was an all Cornish line up with Johnny Fryer now living in Newquay and Ollie Adams from Newquay, Jayce Robison from St Ives and Toby Donachie from St Merryn.

The competition conditions were extremely challenging for all concerned but the waves increased in size overnight on Saturday giving everyone a great climax to the event on Sunday with good waves and sunshine. Sunday saw an onshore wind help generate shoulder high waves throughout the day.

Johnny surfed consistently throughout the event taking home a Gibson Les Paul Studio guitar as the champion’s trophy.
