Hi Gail, you're right, the days of the surf club in the seventies are times i often think about, the film nights in the southern vectis social club, the battered old old boards in the club hut etc.i didn't think anyone remembered Daves old nickname,it was given to him in about 1972 by one of our old classmates (Andy Rolfe i think)using his initials, but like his hair and a few of his teeth has receeded over the years.i'll be down you're way a few times this year and say hi

Enjoyed reading of the exploits of a later tranch of apprentices. I spent the whole five years of my apprenticeship living in 'the hostel' When I was there the boys from Croydon were from Metal Props Ltd.The lifestlyle 1953--1958 was much the same as that descibed, except that we collected our grant (10s/3d)(51p)! from The Cowes labour office on Friday lunchtime. But The Folly still had to wait til the evening.
All the best John F

i think that together Dave and Chris, especially during the 70's and 80's helped keep the the English surfboard manufacturers afloat by the shear number of boards purchased,Dave is still going strong in an effort to out do Chris to hold the world record for 'most boards owned'

Excellent Keith! That was a trip which will stay with me for the rest of my life for sure but great to see the photos again. I remember having to wean Sid off the red wine; I think it was when he was putting it on his Corn Flakes which gave us a clue.
We had just built Jake's 'Yellow Peril'van which he would not drive over 60mph as the engine had to run in. That was a long way at 60 but what a trip.
